Time for a Maxi dress

I will admit that I'm not really a fan of maxi dresses. I've made a few but every time I regretted the effort. I'm affectionately referred to as the "furnace"; always hot, always complaining about being hot.  So why I made a long dress that prevents air flow from my legs is beyond me. Perhaps I'm a bit of a masochist.

Once again, thanks to Melizza for taking the pictures...

I used Simplicity 1064, a wrap tunic with elastic waist and wrapped mullet hem. I loathe mullet hems. There was no way in hell I would bother with that, so I lengthened view C but used short sleeves. I don't remember how much length I added. I'm 5'8" for reference.

I've got outwear on the brain

I want to make a moto jacket. No, not just that. I want it to be FALL already. I'm done with summer. Done. Sewing summer clothes no longer interests me. It's time for jackets and an obscene amount of ponte knit dresses. I want to be draped in scarves while strutting around in my boots.

I am so ready for autumn.

A Winning Combination: Vogue 8028 and New Look 6143

I finished this dress about 6 weeks ago. Melizza (Pincushion Treats) graciously took photos of me in my finished dress well over a month ago. Why has it taken me this long to post a review? I'm not sure. I really like this dress but I've only worn it once.

The fabric is cotton poplin from Mood. It is lightweight, more like shirting than poplin.

More dress musings.

I am going to make this dress:

Carolina Herrera Resort 2015 Look 1

Toy (of Sew and Style blog) posted about this last year, of course I didn't stumble upon it until 2 days ago. I will admit that I don't keep up with designer collections. I usually stumble across things as I lurk blogs.

This and That.

At the moment, I'm knee-deep in trench coat sewing. This marks the third time I've used the Silhouette Barbara's trench coat pattern. I found some water resistant navy poplin at Joann and it practically demanded to be made into a trench coat.

Once I've finished with the trench coat, I want to make some dresses. I have quite a few poly prints in my stash that would make lovely spring dresses. Initially, I had one print earmarked for another Emery dress but halfway through my planning, I got sidetracked. I want to up my dress sewing game. I need a bit more of a challenge that a simple gathered skirt and bodice can't provide.

A brief overview of 2014

I've made a lot of clothing over the last year but I only got around to blogging a handful of items. I know, I'm a terrible blogger. I don't have an excuse, I just lost interest in blogging. However, I haven't lost interest in posting photos to Instagram. As seen here:
