About Me

Colette Hawthorn v. 2

Thirty-four year old novice seamstress (sewist?, sewaholic?) originally from Texas but recently moved to Seattle with my husband, Kris, and our fur-babies: Colby and Ginsberg. As with most sewists, my mom introduced me at around age 8 or 9 to the wonderful world of sewing. I believe my first project was a Care Bear pillow. My mom was one crafty lady and her boundless creativity continues to inspire me daily.

Sewing as a hobby didn't occur to me until 2007. Aside from sewing the occasional button, I did no sewing whatsoever. I got bored one night and started making felt ninjas. I bought my first sewing machine in 2010, a Brother LX-3125. Despite the poor reviews, this machine served me well with no problems. I "upgraded" to a Brother CE8080PRW in 2012. I also own a Bernina Serger that I have yet to use.

I enjoy sewing clothing for myself. Occasionally, I sew for others but it gives me no pleasure. In fact, it feels like a chore unless felt is involved. Even then, I only sew things for a select few. I am a 99% selfish seamstress. That is fine by me.
